Job Purpose

To lead institution-wide business planning, coordinate strategy execution, and enterprise performance management on behalf of the Managing Director (MD).

The role coordinates the development, translation, tracking, and reporting of the Bank’s strategic objectives, high-impact goals, and corporate initiatives ensuring alignment with the Bank’s mandate, regulatory expectations, approved financial plans, capital plans, risk appetite, and sustainability commitments.

Responsibilities /Key Deliverables

  1. Strategy & Business Planning
    • Coordinate the development, annual review, and periodic refresh of the Bank’s corporate strategy, medium-term plans, and annual business plans.
    • Translate Board-approved strategy into actionable plans, initiatives, milestones, and measurable performance indicators across all business and support units and related strategy cascade across the network.
    • Ensure coherence between strategic objectives, annual budgets, capital plans, funding strategy, and the Board-approved risk appetite framework.
    • Embed sustainability, financial inclusion, housing finance, and social-impact objectives into the Bank’s planning processes.
    • Own and maintain the Bank’s strategy architecture, planning calendar, methodologies, and templates.
    • Competitive Intelligence & Market Insight

      Lead monitoring and analysis of market trends, competitor developments, macroeconomic conditions, regulatory changes, customer behaviour, and industry best practices to inform strategic decision-making and business planning.

    • Benefits Realization Tracking

      Establish and monitor benefits-realization frameworks for strategic initiatives to ensure delivery of expected financial, operational, customer, and social-impact outcomes.

    • Strategic Risk Integration

      Coordinate the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of strategic risks that may affect achievement of the Bank's strategic objectives.

  2. Enterprise Performance Management & Execution Tracking
    • Design, operate, and continuously improve an enterprise performance monitoring framework that tracks delivery of strategic goals, high-impact initiatives, and the Managing Director’s priorities.
    • Coordinate periodic performance reviews with Executive Management; surface execution risks, deviations, and corrective actions early.
    • Develop concise dashboards, scorecards, and performance briefings for Executive Committee and Board use.
    • Drive timely escalation and resolution of cross-functional execution bottlenecks.
  3. Board & Executive Governance Support
    • Prepare and quality-assure Board strategy papers, MD reports, scorecards, and briefing notes.
    • Track implementation of Board and Executive Committee resolutions on strategy and institutional priorities through to closure.
    • Coordinate strategy offsites, annual planning sessions, and execution review workshops.
    • Ensure planning and governance documentation meets internal standards and regulatory expectations.
  4. Financial & Strategic Alignment
    • Partner with Finance to ensure business plans are financially viable and consistent with approved budgets, capital plans, and funding strategies.
    • Lead scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and strategic trade-off assessments to support MD and Executive decision-making.
    • Prioritise strategic initiatives on the basis of value creation, risk, organisational capacity, and impact.
  5. Enterprise Initiatives & Special Projects
    • Lead or coordinate MD-assigned strategic initiatives, transformation programmes, and institutional projects.
    • Manage engagements with external consultants and advisors on strategy-related assignments.
    • Conduct post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and institutional knowledge.
  6. Communication, Culture & Change Enablement
    • Support MD communications on strategy, priorities, and performance to staff and stakeholders.
    • Ensure consistent strategic messaging across the planning, performance, and reporting cycles.
    • Champion a culture of execution discipline, accountability, and results orientation.
  7. Stakeholders & Partnerships
    • Support identification and evaluation of new business opportunities, emerging trends, strategic partnerships, and business model innovations aligned to the Bank's long-term growth objectives.
    • Coordinate the engagement of the Bank’s key stakeholders and partnerships for value creation and benefits realization

Scope & Decision Authority

  • Recommends — does not approve corporate strategy, business plans, and the planning calendar; approval rests with the MD and Board.
  • Operates with bank-wide reach across all functions, exercised through the authority of the MD.
  • No direct budget-approval authority; influences resource prioritisation through the planning and performance process.
  • Custodian of the enterprise performance framework and the integrity of strategy reporting to Board and EXCO.

None (no direct budget ownership). Provides analysis and recommendations that shape resource allocation across the Bank.

Person Specification

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Management, Strategy, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MSc in Strategy, Economics, or Finance) preferred.
  • Professional certification in strategy, finance, or performance/project management (e.g., CFA, PMP, Balanced Scorecard) is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ progressive experience in corporate strategy, business planning, performance management, or management consulting — preferably within banking or financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating strategy and supporting Executive / Board-level processes.
  • Strong exposure to regulated environments, financial planning, and institutional governance.

Technical & Functional Competencies

  • Strategic thinking, structured analysis, and synthesis.
  • Financial and business acumen; budgeting and capital-planning literacy.
