The Production Officer will support the implementation of technical activities in coffee production and post-harvest processing under the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs in Agriculture Stimulated by Coffee (EYE-C) program. The role focuses on promoting youth engagement in climate-smart coffee agronomy, improved farm productivity, and efficient post-harvest handling practices. The Production Officer will work directly with youth-led households, producer groups, and partners to deliver field-level support, training, and technical backstopping. S/he will contribute to enhancing the adoption of modern agronomic practices, basic processing innovations, and inclusive value chain entry points to improve livelihoods and resilience among young farmers.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the implementation of EYE-C’s strategic and operational plans by executing field activities related to coffee production and processing. |
• A range of relevant, field-validated production and processing practices successfully implemented with youth farmers and groups. |

Assist in collecting data and engaging youth groups to inform stakeholder mapping and analysis within the production and processing segments. |
• Active participation in stakeholder meetings at local or regional level, with documented feedback that informs project implementation. |

Participate in field assessments to identify gaps, opportunities, and local dynamics in targeted coffee-growing areas. |
• Productive working relationships established with key local actors (e.g. cooperatives, input dealers, extension agents) supporting youth in coffee production and processing. |
|
Collaborate with technical teams and local actors to support the identification and implementation of impactful production and processing interventions. |
• Field activities comply with program guidelines, including adherence to environmental, safeguarding, and operational risk mitigation procedures during implementation. |
Promote Climate-Smart Agriculture and Good Agronomic Practices
Support youth farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices that improve coffee yields, enhance soil and water management, and build resilience to climate change. Provide training and on-site coaching in climate-smart agronomy, integrated pest management, and other environmentally sound practices that contribute to sustainable production.

Facilitate Access to Efficient, Youth-Owned Primary Processing Systems
Support the establishment and use of basic, cost-effective post-harvest handling and processing infrastructure among youth groups and enterprises. Promote systems that improve product quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and generate employment opportunities in rural communities.
Action Steps | Success Criteria/Measures |
Support the setup and operationalization of affordable, youth-accessible agro-processing technologies such as drying racks, hand pulpers, and storage units. |
• Measurable increase in the volume of Grade A/B coffee processed by young women-led or youth-managed groups. |
Provide hands-on training and coaching to young women and men in quality control, food safety, and basic compliance practices. |
• Number of community or youth group-led processing units that are fully operational, regularly used, and demonstrating financial sustainability. |
Mobilize youth groups and community stakeholders to adopt shared-use models for small-scale processing facilities that improve efficiency and product value. |
• Documented reduction in post-harvest physical and quality losses among supported beneficiaries. |
REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field.
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Extension, Gender in Agriculture, or Rural Development is an added advantage.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is desirable but not mandatory for exceptional candidates with strong field experience.
Experience:
- At least 5–7 years of progressive experience in agricultural development, with direct involvement in coffee value chains.
- Proven experience supporting youth-focused or gender-responsive agricultural programs in rural settings.
- Strong understanding of rural development, youth engagement, and private sector dynamics.
- Familiarity with donor-funded programs such as Mastercard Foundation, Danida, and the EU.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and influence stakeholders across community, private sector, and development partner levels.
- Good working knowledge of climate-smart production practices, post-harvest handling, and quality enhancement techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; fluency in local languages within the project areas is an asset.
- Passion for female youth empowerment and sustainable agriculture.
