The Project Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of the WeWork project in Kampala and Wakiso, focusing on coordinating training delivery, beneficiary support, coordination with stakeholders, post-training employment or business incubation. The role requires a strong understanding of your livelihoods, green jobs and inclusive economic programming

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Effective Project Implementation and sustainability plans

  • Develop and manage detailed annual, quarterly and monthly project activity plans aligned to project timelines and target in collaboration with key departments.
  • Mobilize and select participants transparently ensuring inclusion of youth, women and refugees, 
  • Promote appropriate innovations and approaches to supporting decent employment of youth within the green economy.
  • Organize monthly planning meetings with implementing partners to guide effective implementation.
  • Ensure core project models and approaches are implemented according to schedule and follow the minimum standards.
  • Identify barriers to the successful transition of trained youth into decent jobs, and develop strategies for overcoming these barriers for the successful transition into work of young people.
  • Prepare timely and quality market assessments to inform new product development and market linkage strategies.
  • Serve as a liaison between trainers, participants, and project management.
  • Provide on-site support during training to address participant needs and ensure smooth operations.

b. Post-training support.

  • Coordinating assessment of trainees.
  • Lead the post-training support/follow-up including mentorship workplace-based learning, job linkages, green business incubation Support training on VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) methodology, financial literacy, savings culture, loan management, and linkage with financial institutions.
  • Support young people and their group leaders and members on governance, leadership, risk management, investment and financial management and provide technical assistance to improve business growth, sustainability, and access to markets.
  • Support youth-led businesses with market analysis, value chain development and access to finance especially via VSLAs and micro finance institutions.
  • Participate in the organization of networking events (such as trade fairs, green business expos/exhibition, business to business linkages, learning visits).
  • Provide targeted business development services to the youth entrepreneurs
  • Participate and contribute in skill-related coordination meetings.
  • Ensure implementing partners conduct activities in a timely manner while maintain required quality standards 

c. Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning.

  • Track training attendance, learning outcomes and post-training employment metrics Work closely with M&E team to gather and input quality data into the project database 
  • Collect and compile data on participant progress, training effectiveness, and project impact.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for the project coordinator and donors.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities, including field assessments, collection of feedback from stakeholders, tracer studies and basic data analysis.
  • Document and share success stories, innovations and lessons learned 

d. Stakeholders engagement, community mobilization and advocacy.

  • Raise awareness of the project and its benefits among the local leaders, private sector actors and the community Conduct awareness on TVET skilling activities among local communities and local leaders
  • Collaborate with relevant private sector actors to enhance business and job opportunities for young people trained under the We Work Kampala Metropolitan area.
  • Facilitate linkages between youth enterprises and Local Economic Development opportunities/initiatives.
  • Represent WIU in local coordination meetings, skills forums and public events

Support the resolution of any conflicts that might arise within group members

e. Linkage, networking and collaboration.

  • Maintain good coordination and working relationships with OPM, UNHCR, Humanitarian Actors, private sector actors, and leaders in Kampala metropolitan area.
  • Collaborate with the Kampala city divisions and Wakiso District to link youth to existing government programs and services.
  • Participate in stakeholder joint engagements, planning meetings, livelihood and environment sector working groups, monthly coordination meetings, workshops and other fora.
  • Foster positive cooperation with stakeholders and embrace links between market actors (private sector) and the project participants.

f. Documentation, Reporting and Knowledge Management

  • Compile and submit activity reports, and assist in preparing quality monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports 
  • Contribute to internal learning products and case studies Conduct regular follow-up visits to trainees during training, workplace-based learning and post-training support period to see how they are applying practices, and provide technical advice and mentoring.
  • Maintain the update records of participants’ profiles, training progress and support services provided
  • Ensure activities are effectively implemented, monitored and progress reports shared

g. Child Protection, Safeguarding, gender and inclusion

  • Ensure inclusive selection and participation of vulnerable groups, especially women, youth with disabilities and refugees
  • Promote WIU safeguarding and gender equality principles throughout the project activities /lifecycle 
  • Ensure the training environment is safe and inclusive for all training participants and stakeholders
  • Monitor the well-being of project participants/beneficiaries and report any safeguarding incidents in line with WIU’s Safeguarding and Code of Conduct policies and guidelines
  • Support youth life skills, leadership and self-confidence enhancement through training and awareness raising on child protection and safeguarding
  • Work with local leaders to protect children from child violations and abuses
