Job Summary: The Quality, Environment, and Safety & Production Support Officer (QESPS) is responsible for ensuring that Jolems Investments Limited maintains high standards of product quality, adheres to environmental regulations, and provides a safe working environment for all employees and stakeholders. This crucial role involves developing and implementing QES policies and procedures, conducting inspections and audits, managing documentation, providing training, and actively supporting the production department to meet quality and efficiency targets while minimizing risks and environmental impact. This position is vital in addressing JIL's challenges related to compliance, operational efficiency, product quality, and maintaining a safe and sustainable business. The QESPS Officer will report to the Production Manager.

Gross Salary: UGX 800,000 per month Key

Responsibilities:
• Quality Control:
• Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and standards throughout the production process, from raw material inspection to finished goods.
• Conduct regular inspections of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure they meet established quality specifications.
• Identify and document product defects and non-conformances, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
• Monitor and analyze quality data, prepare reports on quality performance, and recommend improvements to production processes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, including ISO 9001 and food safety standards like ISO
22000 and HACCP.
• Participate in internal audits to verify the effectiveness of the quality management system.
• Ensure that measuring and monitoring equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
• Environmental Management:
• Develop, implement, and monitor environmental management policies and procedures in line with ISO
14001 standards and JIL's environmental commitments.
• Conduct environmental risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate identified impacts.
• Safety Management:
• Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with ISO
45001 standards and JIL's commitment to worker safety.
• Identify and assess potential hazards and risks in the workplace, and implement appropriate control measures.
• Conduct safety inspections and audits, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
• Provide safety training and promote a strong safety culture among employees.
• Production Support:
• Ensure proper hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained and adhered to the relevant standards in the production area.
• Support the control of non-conforming products in the production process.
• Contribute to the development and review of production-related documentation, including work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications and Skills:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Food Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience (minimum of 2-3 years) in quality control, environmental management, and/or occupational health and safety roles, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge:
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, and HACCP principles and standards.
• Understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
• Knowledge of relevant Ugandan environmental and safety regulations.

Skills:
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
• Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
• Proficiency in using data analysis tools and MS Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, environmental responsibility, and safety.

Performance Indicators:
• Consistent product quality standards, including low defect rates and positive customer feedback.
• Full compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Effective implementation and maintenance of QES policies and procedures.
• Timeliness and accuracy of inspections and audit reports.
• Proactive identification and reduction of risks and incidents.
