As the school’s sole accountant, the successful candidate will manage accounting operations, budgeting, reporting, fee collection, cash flow monitoring, and financial analysis while supporting the long term financial sustainability and growth of the school.

This role reflects best practice in strong international schools where finance departments combine accurate operational accounting with strategic financial planning and management reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations

  • Manage daily accounting operations including receipts, payments, invoicing, reconciliations, and record keeping.
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ensure timely invoicing and professional follow up of outstanding school fees.
  • Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Support payroll preparation and payment processes.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.
  • Monitor expenditure against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and financial projections.
  • Support leadership and the Board with financial analysis and strategic planning.

Management Reporting

  • Prepare accurate monthly financial and management reports.
  • Analyse income, expenditure, enrolment trends, and operational costs.
  • Support strategic decision making through clear financial reporting and analysis.

Regular Reporting

Prepare weekly, monthly, and termly reports including:

  • Cash flow and liquidity
  • Budget versus actual expenditure
  • Fee collection and outstanding balances
  • Financial projections and trends
  • Operational and strategic financial analysis

Compliance and Financial Control

  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures and internal controls.
  • Support audit preparation and financial documentation.
  • Help improve financial systems and reporting processes.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
  • A proactive and solution oriented mindset.
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA Level II completed or higher
  • Minimum 3 years experience in accounting or finance.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Experience in a school is an advantage.
