Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role is responsible for managing the preparation and review of complex federal and state income tax returns, providing tax planning and research, and ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical background in corporate taxation and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Preparation:
- Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax returns for corporations (C-Corp & S-Corp), partnerships, and individuals (for HNWI or owners, if applicable).
- Calculate quarterly estimated tax payments and annual extensions.
- Manage tax provision preparation and review under ASC 740 for financial reporting, including calculating deferred tax assets/liabilities and maintaining supporting workpapers.
- Assist with or lead state and local tax (SALT) filings, including sales & use, property, and franchise tax.
Tax Research & Planning:
- Conduct technical tax research on a variety of issues to ensure compliance and identify tax savings opportunities.
- Analyze the tax implications of business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring.
- Monitor and interpret new and existing tax legislation and advise management on the potential impact.
Audit & Examination Support:
- Serve as a key point of contact and manage correspondence with tax authorities.
- Prepare responses and gather documentation for federal, state, and local tax audits.
Process Improvement & Leadership:
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the tax function.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff members.
- Collaborate with other departments (Finance, Legal, Operations) to gather necessary information and provide tax guidance.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance or related Field
- CPA Level 2 and above.
- At least three to six years of continuous work experience in the same medium or large-sized manufacturing set up
- Extensive experience in accounting and financial processes
- Well-versed and proficient in URA IFRIS System
- In-depth knowledge of Uganda’s tax policies and regulations
- Proficient in using accounting and financial software, Tally, QuickBooks.
- Familiar with tax management and laws related to import business
