WBG Pioneers, the World Bank Group’s Internship Program, offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a high impact learning experience at the heart of global development. Participants gain hands on experience in a diverse and dynamic environment, contribute fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, and connect with international professionals working to end poverty on a livable planet.

The EAEM1unit leads the World Bank’s macroeconomic monitoring and analysis for Uganda. We produce key reports like the Uganda Economic Update and support policy dialogue with government. We work on fiscal policy, debt sustainability, and economic reforms that support growth and stability. We provide analytical inputs to World Bank operations across sectors. We collaborate with ministries, agencies, and partners to support evidence‑based policymaking.

What you will be doing?

  • Database Management: Organize, clean, and update economic databases to enhance accuracy, structure, and usability for the team.
  • Data Collection & Updating: Gather economic, fiscal, and sectoral data from official sources, verify data quality, and maintain regularly updated datasets.
  • Economic Monitoring: Support the team in tracking high-frequency indicators such as inflation, exchange rates, fiscal releases, and trade, and prepare short briefs or visual summaries.
  • Analytical Support: Assist with descriptive analysis, creating charts, and providing background inputs for economic reports and operational tasks.
  • Broader Support: Provide additional support as needed, depending on the intern’s profile and team requirements.

What you will bring?

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel (knowledge of Stata, R, or Python is an asset).
  • Experience with statistical or quantitative methods, including data cleaning, processing, and visualization.
  • Ability to gather, review, and interpret information from multiple sources to support decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in macroeconomics, public finance, or development economics.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
