Main Purpose:
The Business Partner (Finance) is responsible for ensuring alignment between the Business Segment and Finance Operations in order to ensure that specific financial expectations of the business segment and its employees are appropriately managed. The Business Partner would support the Business Segment Head with respect to Finance Management.

Main Job Functions:
Strategy Implementation
- Lead creation of sub-divisional strategy in line with overarching divisional goals
- Ensure effective implementation of sub-divisional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, business plans and support
Staff Leadership and Management
- Source, induct, and manage talent in accordance with legislative guidelines
- Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions where necessary
- Provide definition of roles, responsibilities, individual goals and performance objectives for the team
- Set KPIs and provide regular performance feedback through a well-defined and implementable performance review program
- Develop and implement a training plan in order to build and develop skills within the team Performance manage resources in accordance with HR policy and legislation where necessary
- Actively participate in leadership of team and develop skills of own team
Governance
Adhoc and Operational Meetings
- Set up / participate in adhoc and operational meetings
- Report at process and functional level
Escalations
- Manage and resolve escalations that have impact on critical path of service delivery Escalate issues that will result in significant time, scope, employee/client or cost impact if not resolved
- Manage and provide solutions to issues that require formal resolution
Opco Operational
- Set up and manage project status meetings
- Review and identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions
- Manage budgets
- Sign-off / make decisions regarding operational changes
Performance
- Review performance of SSC and CoE against agreed KPIs and their compliance with SLAs and reverse SLAs
- Create and monitor plan for continuous improvement
- Review performance of SSC and CoE
Reporting
- Review reports on a monthly basis from the SSC and CoE relating to progress made within the sub-division and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
- Review reports on specific projects as per the defined timelines
Budgets
- Manage sub-divisional budgets in line with business objectives
- Manage project initiative budgets in line with business objectives
Operational Delivery
- Acts as the finance resource dedicated to a particular Business segment
- Provides support on planning, budgeting and forecasting process for the Business segment
- Provides insights and challenges the process to ensure that business plans are more commercially robust from initiation
- Guides and advises internal clients on financial implication of actions / decision
- Provides appropriate finance support to the Business segment to create competitive advantage and enhance shareholder value
- Provides decision support to the Business segments from a finance perspective
- Collaborates with Finance Centres of excellence (CoE) and Opco Finance BPs to develop and implement an integrated financial planning strategy
- Identifies and mitigates risks to protect MTN business from potential losses
- Ensures compliance to external regulatory requirements (e.g., disclosure and reporting)
- Fosters a conducive customer-focused environment and MTN culture
- Communicate and liaison with the various Finance Functions and Lines of Business
- Liaising with divisional heads and managers to understand specific requirements relating to financial operations
- Support business as the first point of contact for various Finance operational activities including taxation, payment processing, etc.
- Assist Business segment head in budget estimations and monitoring
- Review commission calculations to ensure that computation is in line with the approved commission structure
- Prepare and update Line and Business heads with key analytics to enable decision making
- Obtain operational feedback on Finance services from Business Segment Heads
- Assist in gathering, collating and consolidating learning and development needs of the Business Segment for improving learning initiatives
- Provide financial assistance and support services as maybe requested from the Business Segment / Employee on a case-to-case basis
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high
- Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation and business continuity
- Ensure the team is led, motivated and rewarded to achieve high performance
- Guide and direct vendors and third parties in achieving MTN Opco objectives
- Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions
- Manage team (including recruitment, on-boarding, attrition)
- Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress, and maintain motivation
- Set up appropriate structure to meet departmental management objectives
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in financial and/or equivalent
- Post Graduate degree in Finance and/or relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant) (preferred)
Work Experience
- 5 years’ experience in a relevant field.
