Position Overview
The MIS Officer will support African Women Rising (AWR) by managing and strengthening digital information systems and organizational ICT infrastructure. The role will ensure the smooth functioning of digital monitoring tools, troubleshoot technological challenges faced by MEAL and program teams, and provide essential IT support to all staff.
He/she will be responsible for maintaining computer hardware and software, ensuring data security, supporting digital data collection tools, and enhancing AWR’s ability to use technology for effective program delivery and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Information System Administration
- Lead the development, maintenance, and improvement of organizational Management Information Systems (MIS).
- Develop systems or software solutions (basic dashboards, simple applications, automated templates) to improve internal processes.
- Document ICT processes, create user guides, and maintain system SOPs to support staff adoption
- Support integration of program data into centralized dashboards or reporting platforms (Power BI, Excel dashboards, etc.).
- Ensure regular backups and safe storage of digital organizational data.
2. ICT Support to the Entire Organization
- Provide first-line IT support for all staff, including troubleshooting hardware, software, network, and internet issues.
- Install, configure, and update computers, printers, servers, and other ICT equipment.
- Set up user accounts, emails, security access, and devices for new staff onboarding.
- Ensure all devices operate with updated antivirus, licensed software, and secure configurations.
- Track ICT inventory and maintenance schedules.
D. Digital Security & Compliance
- Ensure the security of organizational digital data through proper access control, password policies, and backups.
- Implement regular system vulnerability checks to keep organizational data safe.
- Ensure compliance with donor and internal data protection policies.
E. Training & Capacity Building
- Train MEAL staff and program teams on digital data collection tools and use of MEAL technologies.
- Build the capacity of staff on basic computer skills, cyber safety, and use of organizational ICT systems.
- Provide ongoing coaching to field teams on troubleshooting mobile data collection devices.
F. Coordination & Support to Programs
- Work closely with the MEAL Manager to support digital monitoring processes across all projects.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure technology supports program implementation efficiently.
- Troubleshoot errors in digital data collection forms, server issues, and syncing challenges from the field.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in ICT, MIS management, database administration, or digital data systems preferably in an NGO setting.
- Strong experience with digital data collection tools (KoboToolbox, ODK, CommCare).
- Ability to manage databases (SQL, Access, or cloud-based systems).
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or advanced Excel).
- Proficiency in computer hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Experience in network administration and basic server management.
- Strong understanding of data protection and cyber security standards.
