Position Overview
We are seeking a competent and results-oriented Stores Assistant Manager to support and coordinate the daily operations of the Stores Department at our Lugazi Plant. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Stores Manager to ensure efficient inventory control, timely issuance of materials, and full compliance with safety and operational procedures—essential in a dynamic steel manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing the receipt, verification, and proper storage of raw materials, consumables, spare parts, and finished products.
- Coordinate material issuance to production units based on production schedules and approved requisitions.
- Supervise storekeepers and ensure proper implementation of inventory procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate inventory records using ERP or inventory management systems.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and assist in monthly and annual physical stock audits.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of heavy and bulky steel materials to prevent damage or accidents.
- Monitor stock levels and raise timely alerts for replenishment to avoid production downtime.
- Enforce compliance with safety, housekeeping, and operational standards within the stores.
- Prepare and submit inventory reports and stock variance analyses to management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or higher qualification in Stores Management, Logistics, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing or heavy industry environment.
- Experience in the steel manufacturing industry will be an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles, warehouse safety practices, and material handling procedures.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems or inventory management software; proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and ability to work under pressure.
- Physically fit and capable of overseeing the movement and storage of heavy industrial items.
