Reporting To Principal Legal Officer
Job Purpose Support the Legal Directorate in the management and follow up of Legal matters in the University

Key, Duties and Responsibilities
1. Examine legal data and conduct legal related research;
2. Supervise and appraise staff;
3. Peruse University staff files on legal issues;
4. Compile relevant recorded cases in Courts of Laws and file Court documents;
5. Participate in the valuation and survey of the University property and land;
6. Draft memoranda, articles of association and floating companies;
7. Carry out searches in the land and company registries;
8. Follow up Court matters for hearing and update Legal Officers on their schedules;
9. Update the Legal Office on new legislations, publication in the Uganda gazette, law reports and such related matters;
10. Identify Law reports, legislation, books and reading materials for the Legal Unit Library;
11. Keep records of all Council policies, statutes, rules and regulations;
12. Collect information to draft pleadings;
13. Attend to Student’s Welfare Committee.
Required Qualifications
i. An Honor’s Bachelor of Laws Degree from a recognized Institution;
ii. A Diploma in Legal Practice (LDC);
iii. Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practicing certificate;
iv. A Master of Laws Degree from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
Experience Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in a Law firm or legal unit of a reputable organization in the areas of commercial and land transaction

2. Computer Literacy, Interpersonal & Communication skills;
3. Quick judgment and decision making;
4. Ability to initiate change
Tenure of Appointment 4-year Contract

Post: Legal Assistant - Directorate Of Legal Affairs

Reporting To Legal Officer
Job Purpose : Manage day-to-day operations of the Directorate by carrying out administrative functions and providing clerical support to the legal team.

Key, Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in the conduct of legal-related research;
2. Participate in compiling relevant recorded cases in courts of law;
3. Assists in filing Court documents;
4. Represent the Directorate in Evaluation Committee meetings and Bid openings;
5. Draft Memoranda, Articles of Association and floating Companies;
6. Assist in following up with Court matters, fix cases for hearing and keep the Legal Officers updated of their schedules;
7. Assist in identifying Law reports, Legislation, Books and other reading materials for the Legal Unit Library;
8. Keep records of all Council Policies, Statutes, Rules and Regulations;
9. Assist in interviewing and collecting information necessary to draft pleadings;
10. Liaise with External Lawyers, University Secretary and Legal Office on legal matters;
11. Update Legal Officers on cases in Court;
12. Liaise with external lawyers and University Legal Officers on pending cases and Court matters;
13. Provide clerical service to the Staff Tribunal.

Required Qualifications
i. Diploma in Legal Practice – Law Development Centre;
ii. An honour’s Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized institution
iii. Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court
