To support tax accounting functions by assisting in the preparation of tax returns, reconciliation of tax accounts, and recordkeeping of statutory obligations. This role provides exposure to real-world tax operations and promotes a foundation in tax compliance and financial reporting within a regulated environment.
Impact
The Graduate Trainee will contribute to the accuracy and integrity of UEDCL’s tax records and filings, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations while gaining hands-on experience in financial systems and tax processes.
Key Result Areas
- Assist in the preparation of draft tax returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Income Tax).
- Support timely and accurate filing of returns and remittance schedules.
- Help reconcile tax-related accounts and support the preparation of journal entries for tax obligations.
- Assist in the review of invoices and transactions for tax implications and correct treatment.
- Maintain organized, up-to-date records of tax filings, payments, and correspondence with authorities.
- Support audit readiness by ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Provide administrative and data support during internal or external tax audits.
- Help compile responses and documentation for tax authority queries.
- Assist in identifying gaps or inefficiencies in existing tax workflows.
- Contribute suggestions for process improvements and data management tools.
- Engage in structured learning on local tax laws, accounting systems (e.g., ERP), and tax risk management.
- Attend training sessions and apply learnings to assigned tasks.

- Properly filed tax records and audit documents
- Support provided during audits and assessments

Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution
- Must have graduated within the last three (3) years
- Progress toward a professional qualification such as CPA or ACCA is an added advantage
Experience
- No formal experience required
Competencies
- Basic understanding of tax principles and financial reporting
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software
- Willingness to learn and apply new tax rules and software tools
- Ethical mindset and commitment to compliance
- Ability to handle confidential data with discretion
