Job Description
Main accountabilities (Main Responsibilities):
Responsible Sourcing:
- Support Country Sustainability Manager to deliver on the country targets, budgets and workplans of the Responsible Sourcing Strategy for the country based on LDC’s Coffee Responsible Sourcing approach, the business strategy, and the local context.
- Support development of the certified and/or verified supply chains under third-party programs (Rainforest Alliance, 4C, Fairtrade, Organic) and/or LDC RSP (RSP advanced) and supply chains free of deforestation (compliant with EU regulation/ LDC’s group commitment) and compliant to human rights due diligence regulations (LDC RSP Core/Core +) by:
- Facilitating the development of new responsible sourcing networks including identification of new farmers and suppliers in coordination with the procurement team
- Developing a supplier engagement program by organizing training to suppliers related to LDC’s Suppliers Code of Conduct
- Mapping out project areas and regularly communicate with the local team to maximize linkage between projects and LDC commercial activities
- Contribute to tracking progress of LDC’s Responsible Sourcing Program in coordination with the local suppliers, their field teams, as well as LDC commercial team. Proactively analyze, identify, and ensure appropriate follow-up actions on compliance issues.
- Support Country Sustainability Manager to coordinate plans and activities with other key departments, especially with procurement, quality, execution, SHE and industry teams to ensure LDC’s Coffee Responsible Sourcing Strategy is well-known, understood and implemented at each level of LDC’s operations.
Stronger Coffee Initiative (SCI) :
- Develop Stronger Coffee Initiative strategy in Uganda and its operational model based on the global SCI framework and the local context in close collaboration with the Country Sustainability Manager:
- Identify in coordination with sustainability and origination teams how to maximize project investments within existing and new supply chains covered by LDC’s Responsible Sourcing Program (RSP).
- Define a set of interventions and their operational model to be implemented within LDC’s supply chains to achieve the country SCI strategy
- Lead the delivery of targets, work plans and budgets linked to the development of SCI within the country.
- Lead the implementation of SCI within the country in coordination with the Sustainability manager and with local/international partners, customers, international organizations:
- Coordinate operations and administration (ensure clear and up-to-date interventions’ documentation. E.g., contracts, workplans, timeline, progress report etc.)
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of outputs and outcomes
- Ensure the Sustainability team is properly informed and resourced to undertake their responsibilities, provide support, coaching and back-stop to guarantee the operational models in place lead to efficient delivery of activities
- Ensure work plans, budgets and reports are completed and delivered to partners in a timely manner
- Manage M&E activities in coordination with the Sustainability Manager to track project progress and impacts
- Report regularly to the Sustainability Manager about projects implementation
- Build relations with donor agencies and sustainability stakeholders in Uganda. Participate in and pro-actively seek co-investment opportunities from external stakeholders to finance SCI implementation within the country
- Support the development of marketing material to enrich stakeholders and customer communication content
Experience
Knowledge and Experience:
Experience:
- 2-4 years with a minimum of three years’ experience in coordinating projects supporting smallholder farmers in coffee or other agricultural commodities, including program management, work planning, budgeting, and training local staff. Experience in coffee is a strong advantage.
Knowledge:
- Strong presentation and communication skills (both written and oral). Knowledge of sustainability issues in smallholder farming (ideally coffee).
Education:
- As a minimum, bachelor's degree in sustainability management, agriculture, international development, or similar relevant topics
Languages:
- Very good level of English is required (oral and written)
- Systems: Office (proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Other skills and competencies:
- Organizing: can manage resources (people, funding, material, support) to get things done, can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal
- Project and Process management: able to set up processes and guidelines to get things done on time and meet the expectations
- Action and result oriented: full of energy to reach the objective and deliver results
- Innovative thinking: ready to approach topics with can-do attitude, and find innovative ways to resolve challenges

Interactions/ interface:
The incumbent will work closely with LDC Country Sustainability Manager, Sustainability agronomists based in Kampala, LDC Global Stronger Coffee Initiative and the Regional Sustainability Manager for Africa.
Interactions with external stakeholders like roasters, local and international organizations.
Travel to project sites up to 30% of time.
