Our client Bujagali Energy Limited (BEL) is a leading power producer, delivering affordable and clean energy in Uganda through the Bujagali Hydro Power Plant. On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent and experienced Transport/Fleet Officer to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Reports To: The HR and CSR Specialist
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Job Summary: To provide safe and secure transportation of staff, visitors and official BEL
mail, office packages and other parcels.
To manage the company vehicle fleet efficiently and cost effectively.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Transport Coordination
- The contracted and BEL internal transport arrangements are complementary, fit for purpose, and there are no gaps in the service provision.
- Transportation needs, both planned and unplanned, are accommodated efficiently.
- The matrix of service providers for transportation is reviewed regularly and the scope and specifications of transport service contracts are defined to deliver the transportation strategy.
Fleet Maintenance.
- BEL’s vehicles are cleaned to the highest standards to create a pleasant experience for the passengers.
- Maintenance and servicing of BEL vehicles is conducted at the recommended intervals and the vehicle are in roadworthy condition at all times.
Contractor Service Quality
- The contracted services are monitored to ensure timetables are being met and that there is no loss of work time through late arrivals at site.
- Routine vehicle checks are conducted and the vehicles service schedule compliance is monitored to ensure all vehicles remain road-worthy, are fit for purpose, and conform with the contracted levels of service.
- All service provider drivers and operators are confirmed as having valid driving licences for the class of vehicle under their control, their medical certificates are valid, and that the service providers’ have the specified level of insurance cover in place.
- Passengers’ complaints and/or observations on vehicle and/or driver deficiencies are investigated and followed up with the service provider for remedial action where warranted.
Goods transportation
- Materials, goods, and equipment transportation by BEL and the contracted service providers is arranged and scheduled according to the needs of the company and the power station.
Vehicle use safety
- Routine inspections are conducted, and summary reports prepared, to verify that vehicles are equipped in accordance with BEL standards.
- Vehicles is always parked in the permitted zones at site to meet safety and security standards.
- Road safety and defensive driving refreshers are conducted with BEL and service providers drivers.
Compliance and Reporting
- Prompt reports provided
- Any and all vehicle incidents, accidents, or injuries are promptly report to approved reporting procedures and policy.
- BEL claims are managed with the company insurers
- Claims and reports for the service providers are reviewed and monitored.
- Provision of all required documentation is coordinated with relevant authorities such as police and insurers.
Cost Control
- Vehicle and transport costs are monitored and assessed against the approved budget and reports are provided for variances that exceed approved limits.
- Vehicle expenses are reviewed for verification of legitimacy.
- Costs of keeping vehicles on road are monitored and recommendations for replacement are made when it is no longer cost-effective to keep vehicles in service.
People Management Responsibilities

- Your individual development plan is in place and well documented. Actions from the plan are being implemented.
- Own performance is in accordance with the annual objectives set with your manager and from your agreed development plan.
Stakeholder Management
Team Management
- The People and Performance Team’s resources are proportionate with the needs of the business and comply with both company and legislative requirements.
- Members of the People and Performance Team know and understand the strategic direction of BEL and their respective roles and responsibilities in it including acceptable behaviours and standards of performance expected of them.
- BEL is recognized as a Leader in the field of Asset Management Service Delivery practice within Uganda.
Relationship Management
- Positive and Constructive relationships are established and maintained with fellow members of the People and Performance Team.
- Members of the wider BEL Team are appropriately involved in and kept informed of the Budget and Procurement Team’s activities and matters affecting their areas of responsibility.
- Strategic level relationships are established and maintained with the Company’s key service providers and customers.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
- The position holder is expected to hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Transport and Logistics Management.
- Position holder must have a valid Driver’s License.
Minimum Experience
- Solid passenger driving experience of at least 7 years in Uganda
- Knowledge of traffic laws, fleet tracking systems, and vehicle maintenance.
- Familiarity with logistics planning, route scheduling, and fuel usage monitoring.
- Competence in report writing, basic budgeting, and record keeping.
