Position Summary:
He/she shall oversee the overall coordination and management of the P&O workshop department. The P&O will be responsible for overall coordination, management and smooth running of the P&O workshop working closely with the, P&O Team, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, CBR Manager, Centre Manager, and mobile clinic team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall success of the Orthopaedic Workshop department by overseeing the Technicians, Bench Workers, Shoe Artisan, Volunteers and Intern students.
- Compile departmental reports, work-plans, and any other information from your supervisor when required.
- Set targets to the team and ensure they are meeting them
- Quality Control Analysis: Conduct tests and inspections of Prosthetics and Orthotics devices to ensure quality service delivery to the clients and improve on their performance levels at all times.
- Identify and assess patients in need of Prosthetics & Orthotics Services at all levels in collaboration with the physiotherapists and other members of the rehabilitation team.
- Take measurements, negative casts, and produce the appliances accordingly by ensuring that materials are utilized in a proper manner.
- Ensure that machines are kept in good working condition, anticipate and identify problems in a timely way
- Compile patients’ records, file well with the required information and maintain patients’ confidentiality and easy access when required.
- Train and supervise other Technicians, Bench worker, Shoe Artisan, Volunteers and Interns for placement in the Prosthetics and Orthotics Workshop.
- Research new ways to fabricate P&O devices
- Update skills and knowledge by attending conferences, seminars, professional trainings to help deliver quality services to the patients.
- Examine, interview, and measure patients in order to determine their appliance needs, and to identify factors that could affect appliance fit
- Fit, test and evaluate P&O devices on patients and adjust for proper fit, function and comfort.
- Recognise the need to repeat any of the above procedures to ensure proper fit, function, comfort and functionality of the device to the patient.
- Instruct patients and caretakers to patients on use of P&O appliances at all levels.
- Provide personal assistance, emotional support, or other personal care to other colleagues such as co-workers, customers, or patients
- Install equipment, machines, wiring, or any other program to meet the desired expectation.
- Show and explain Prosthetics & Orthotics appliances to members of staff and other healthcare workers when required.
- Responsible for doing inventories of materials stock and updating stock flow in the department and ensure that the department runs smoothly.
- Prosthetics and Orthotics store control, ensuring that materials are utilized well in proper manner and not wasted.
- Manage and support the other P&O technicians, Bench workers, Shoe Artisan, Volunteers and Intern Students for placement to ensure they are conducting their duties to the highest standard and getting the best out of them.
- Any other assigned or designated duty from the Supervisor or Manager from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Medical Prosthetics & Orthotics Science (Category II) from a recognised institution
- A degree in Prosthetic and Orthotic Science (Category I) is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of professional experience as a Prosthetics and Orthotics practitioner in an NGO setting is an added advantage.
- Experience in team management
- Experience in humanitarian field within refugees setting
- Personal Skills & Technical Competencies required
- Skills in computer and ICT tools
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Flexibility to travel to the field
- Strong organisational skill
- Report writing skills
