Project Background

The objective of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) programme is to enhance climate resilience among women, men, and youth in both refugee and host communities, and to promote inclusive, cohesive, and environmentally sustainable development in refugee-affected areas, aligned with local priorities. URRI is funded by the Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala.

The overall purpose of the role:

The Information Management Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative's (URRI) programs by strengthening MEAL information systems to ensure high-quality data collection, storage, analysis, and reporting. The role invoves working closely with the MEAL team, ensuring coordination with URRI partners, technical and implementation team at field level to ensure that information management systems are efficient, effective and aligned with URRI's operational goals. The role holder will also play a critical role in URRI MEAL database management. She/he will ensure that data is accessible, accurate, and used to inform decision-making and strategy development.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Information System Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting:

  • Support the update of the URRI MEAL central database, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and version control.
  • Manage PMP indicator data: cleaning, validating, aggregating, and preparing datasets for routine performance tracking and reporting.
  • Support VLSA data entry and verification, including group records, membership details, savings and loan cycles, and linkage to outcome-level indicators.
  • Assist in the organization and management of data from Kobo/ Open Data Kit (ODK) and other digital data collection platforms used under URRI.
  • Support data consolidation from partners (PICOT, PALM Corps, CEFORD, DCA and DRC) in line with agreed MEAL and reporting frameworks.
  • Produce basic summaries, tables, and dashboards to support quarterly reports, reviews, and donor reporting.
  • Ensure proper data storage, documentation, and archiving in line with URRI data protection and accountability standards.
  • Support dissemination of MEAL information products (datasets, summaries, dashboards) to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop data visualizations, dashboards, and reporting tools that allow for effective communication of key findings and program performance.
  • Collaborate with URRI program teams to analyze and interpret data, providing insights that enhance program quality and effectiveness.
  • Ensure the integration of geographic information systems (GIS) into data collection processes, where appropriate.
  • Support documentation of community and beneficiary engagement at baseline, midline, and end line stages, ensuring feedback and learning points are captured and shared with relevant teams.
  • Assist in the dissemination of approved information products to internal stakeholders, donors, and coordination platforms, ensuring sensitive information is protected.
  • Support tracking of programme indicators, milestones, and compliance-related data in line with consortium reporting requirements.

Data Quality and Protection:

  • Ensure data protection and confidentiality are maintained in line with DRC’s data protection and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policies.
  • Implement data quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of data collected across programs.
  • Regularly review and audit data collection processes to identify and address potential issues in data quality and security.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with consortium partner’s program teams, MEAL, and IT departments to ensure data needs are met and systems are integrated into broader program strategies.
  • Perform any other information management or MEAL-related tasks assigned by the URRI Consortium Manager or MEAL Specialist.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Support:

  • Collaborate with the MEAL team to ensure that information management activities support wider monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning objectives.
  • Assist in documenting lessons learned, best practices, and case studies from program data, ensuring these insights inform future program design and implementation.

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in information management, database design or database administration, and information management with development projects implemented by national/international NGOs/UN. Moreover, we also expect the following.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Information Technology or related field.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in data analysis software (Excel, SQL, Access, PowerBI or other statistical packages)
  • Strong knowledge of data management systems, including database design, management, and administration.
  • In-depth understanding of database platforms and the ability to write code and queries.
  • Knowledge of M&E processes and data collection platforms such as Kobo, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and capacity-building on information management systems and data collection processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in written & spoken English

Desirable

  • Experience with GIS mapping and other spatial analysis tools.
  • Certificate in programming languages
  • Knowledge of local languages (Arabic, Aringa tee, Kakwa, etc.) is an asset.
