JOB DETAILS:
OVERVIEW

The community sponsorship officer will be responsible for implementing field level sponsorship operations in line with set performance targets and SCI Sponsorship policies, procedures, and standards. He/She will also supports thematic program implementation and community mobilization in line with sponsorship requirements.

Key Areas Of Accountability:
Contribute to the planning and implementation of learning projects like mappings, documentations, case studies, general data collection support, etc.

Community engagement (orientation and mobilization)
• Sensitize communities (enrolled children parents/guardians, teachers, community leaders and other community members) on SCI sponsorship.
• Innovatively support communities including enrolled children households to participate and benefit from the core programmes in the IA
• Train and build capacity of PTA/SMCs to become champions of community mobilisation within areas of jurisdiction.
• Work in liaison with the community capacity strengthening coordinator and regularly develop/revise Community Mobilisation Plan.
• Mobilize and facilitate active participation of children and their communities in planning, monitoring and implementation of community development initiatives.
• Build the capacity of children, families and community to collectively engage local leaders on identified development priorities.

Implementation of sponsorship operations
• Carry out child enrolment and sustain child enrolment requirement throughout the year as per agreed allocation per staff and the GSO Child Information Management Plan
• Obtain and ensure parent/guardian consent forms are filled and filed appropriately for every child enrolled for sponsorship.
• Monitor child eligibility at least twice a year as per SCI sponsorship standard – Mid-Year Eligibility Check (MYEC) and Annual Family Updates (AFU).
• Regularly monitor and report child participation in the programme
• Support sponsor-child communications by ensuring timely and quality completion of assigned tasks such as child reply to replies, 30-day letters, proactive Annual Letters (PALs) sponsor marketing deliverables like; Blog posts, child guardian content, video assets and Annual status reports, among others.
• Mobilize and support child enrolled enrolment campaigns and Annual Family Update (AFU) within area of jurisdiction.
• Continuously carryout community awareness campaigns on Save the Children child sponsorship program approach and how individual child sponsorship works.

Programme development and implementation
• Continuously take lead in the implementation of Community Mobilization plans and strategies within areas of jurisdiction
• Participate in program planning in at least one of the on-going thematic programmes as may be assigned from time to time by the line manager. The incumbent will be required from time to time to share near real time information and advice development priorities during program planning.
• Actively participate in programme implementation in at least one of the on-going thematic programmes as may be assigned from time to time by the line manager.

Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning
• Continuously assess, collect and share information or data on community changes, participation in the programmes, emergencies, and community evolving needs and suggested priorities so as to inform programme strategy.
• Regularly conduct program intervention monitoring within areas of jurisdiction using the approved tools supplied by MEAL.
• Continuously engage school administrations, children clubs, prefects/students’ bodies and collect feedback for management attention.
• Actively participate in programme and sponsorship reflection and learning events
• Develop and share reports (Activity, monthly, annually) as required by SCI reporting protocols.

Child Safeguarding
• Take responsibility to review, understand and declare commitment to observe and implement child safeguarding policy.
• Closely work with supervisors and or, Child Safeguarding Focal persons to ensure all child abuse or potential risks to children are recorded, reported using the online SC child safeguarding reporting mechanism (DATIX)
• As a representative of SCI in the community, exemplify the expected code of conduct and behaviour.
• Observe confidentiality of all child information that may come to your possession either by virtue of your position as a SCI staff or unintentionally.

To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:
• At least a Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Adult and Community Education or related field.
• At least 2 years working experience in managing child sponsorship operations and development with INGO or Local NGO.
• Proficiency in English & Luganda is required.
• Must have experience in riding a Honda 125 XL motorcycle with a valid ridding Class A Permit
• Thorough understanding of Save the Children working principles and approaches of Child Participation, Child Rights Programming, Partnership, Child Safeguarding, Zero Tolerance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Programme Integration etc.
• Demonstrable financial, planning and budget management skills a MUST. Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Demonstrated knowledge of international and local policies and frameworks relating to their thematic area is a must.
• Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
• Excellent time management and planning capacity.
• Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
• Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are must.
• Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
