Our client is seeking a seasoned and dynamic Country Director to lead for their Uganda operations. office The ideal candidate brings a proven commercial track record and the ability to deliver results with minimal onboarding. Executive Summary of requirements

  • Experience reporting to a dynamic CEO and board, including having dealt with and presented to investors and stakeholders
  • Translating the vision and mission from the Global CEO and board and taking instructions from a global board is essential
  • Relevant qualifications commensurate with the role
  • A proven track record in an operational director or similar type role with demonstrated KPI’s and achievements including contactable referees (including direct managers is essential)
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing a team of goal orientated individuals
  • Passionate about impact and making a difference with experience in Renewable sector an advantage
  • Experience in Africa essential (East Africa and Uganda experience highly desirable) and must be willing to live in Uganda
  • The successful candidate should possess comprehensive experience in overseeing multiple verticals, including Sales, Finance, Human Resources, and other functions, demonstrating the capabilities expected of a leader in a role of this nature

As Country Director, Uganda, you will take full ownership of the company's operations in the country, ensuring strong performance across commercial, operational, and impact areas. You will be responsible for driving business growth and delivering on ambitious targets while maintaining operational excellence and financial sustainability. A critical part of the role is fostering a positive, purpose-driven culture that empowers teams and builds trust at every level.

As the primary bridge between headquarters in the Netherlands and the Uganda operation, you will ensure clear communication, strategic alignment, and seamless execution of priorities. You will bring deep local insights to inform global decisions while translating high-level strategy into effective on-the-ground actions. This is a role for a seasoned leader who combines commercial acumen with a strong commitment to social impact, capable of guiding a complex business in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Strategic Leadership

  • Set and execute the country strategy aligned with our clients global goals.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to department heads (sales, operations, finance, HR, etc.)
  • Represent Uganda in regional and global leadership discussions.

Culture & People

  • Drive business results through data-led decision making.
  • Identify new growth opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion options in close collaborations with the Commercial Director.
  • Monitor and manage KPIs for financial sustainability, sales, and social impact.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Uphold their values by fostering a positive and inclusive work environment while driving high performance and accountability
  • Mentor and develop the leadership team and staff.
  • Lead by example in promoting accountability, transparency, and team spirit.

Experience

  • 5+ years experience in Africa, ideally in East Africa and Uganda
  • Senior leadership role successfully managing cross-functional teams and in scaling, growth and entrepreneurial environments
  • Working experience in clean energy, last-mile distribution, or social enterprises
  • Working experience in scale, growth, and entrepreneurial environments
  • Experience across African and European business environments, with exposure to diverse cultural contexts and international living experience preferable

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required in Business Administration, International Development, Environmental Studies, Economics, Engineering or related field

Specific Deliverables and/or KPI’S

  • Sales (monthly targets achieved while maintaining disciplined and sustainable costs control) + Overachievement in sales
  • Repayment (repayment of 90% or higher)
  • Usage data collection - 90% of usage data captured (excluding first sync on sale)
  • Strategic objectives –

(a) people - (e.g. hiring and setting up team according to plan, driving high performance, engagement and receiving positive feedback on leadership),

(b) strategic goal alignment & execution: Achieve ≥90% implementation of HQ-approved strategic initiatives and country-level annual priorities (e.g., new grant projects, country expansion milestones, strategic partnerships), as evaluated in business reviews
