Job Summary:
The Logistician is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing transportation and distribution operations to ensure efficient and cost-effective logistics management. The role involves managing shipment coordination, route optimization, compliance with transportation regulations, and liaising with suppliers, carriers, and customers. The Logistician plays a key role in ensuring timely and accurate deliveries while optimizing logistics processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transportation & Distribution:
o Organize and oversee inbound and outbound logistics operations, including transport scheduling.
o Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods while optimizing transportation costs.
o Coordinate with carriers, suppliers, and customers to streamline shipping operations.
2. Compliance & Documentation:
o Ensure compliance with national and international logistics regulations.
o Maintain accurate records of shipments, invoices, and customs documentation.
o Implement and monitor compliance with quality assurance and safety protocols.
3. Supplier & Carrier Management:
o Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with transport service providers.
o Negotiate contracts and agreements to achieve favourable terms for the company.
o Monitor supplier and carrier performance to ensure adherence to agreed service levels.
4. Process Improvement & Reporting:
o Analyse logistics data to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
o Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and measure logistics performance.
o Prepare and present regular reports on logistics operations, costs, and challenges.
Key Performance Indicators:
- On-time delivery rate – Percentage of shipments delivered on schedule.
- Cost efficiency – Reduction in logistics and transportation costs.
- Supplier and carrier performance – Adherence to delivery schedules and contract terms.
- Order fulfilment rate – Percentage of customer orders fulfilled without delays.
- Customer satisfaction – Feedback and complaints related to logistics services.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management.
- Experience working with logistics software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of logistics, transportation planning, and supply chain principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of customs regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and logistics management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CILT, APICS, CSCP) is an
- Experience in international shipping and customs clearance processes.
- Familiarity with industry-specific logistics requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based role with occasional travel to warehouses, suppliers, and distribution centres.
- May require working beyond regular business hours to meet deadlines.
