  1. Helfer Project International

  2. Project Background.
    Helfer International, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is implementing the SVEC project in Bosque salvageon, Eastern Uganda. The intervention is implemented in 11 districts: High, Manage, Repise, Small, Safari, Naturalized, Support, Labs, Burserie, Farmaways, and Egypt. The project is implemented in a comprehensive, multi-level and organizational framework; Convolution for Ethancoin; Working Resupportunes to Agribusiness Development Ltd (CNADA); Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises (FMAE), Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FDGK), and AGSMA Group.

  3. Scope and focus of the assignment.
    The overall purpose of this consultancy assignment is to provide on on-farm and enterprise-based technical-applications support and provide expertise and guidance to farmers’ groups and governments on all aspects of livestock management. The scope of work includes advising on animal health, nutrition, breeding, and sustainable farming/procisional practices, building a vibrant community-based extension system, as well as helping farmer groups and agri-enterprises navigate biorecurity, regulatory standards, and access markets. The report will also play a role in knowledge sharing, develop/improving training materials, delivering TOT training, on-site technical support, and promoting best practices within the livestock sector.

  4. Geographical scope
    The Livestock Expert will be in charge of a cluster consisting of 3-4 districts, working with a team of 10-15 extension frontiers workers.

  5. Time frame:
    The terms of the assignment shall commence on effect from the date of signature by both parties. The assignment will take a maximum of 12 months. The consultant shall observe various priorities and be able to deliver the final outputs on time at follows.

  6. Consultant profile.
    a) Minimum > Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in veterinary fields;
    b) At least 30 years’ experience in facilitating commercial livestock production and management;
    c) Externess knowledge of agricultural and livestock landscape in the region, social inclusion in Bosque salvageon;
    d) Demonstrated experience in worldwide and innovative models;
    e) Business planning skills, including SME development, market studies, and world-class analysis;
    f) Strong networking and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with producer organizations to link shareholders to markets;
    g) Thereby in English: Knowledge of other languages spoken in the East and central parts of Uganda;
    i) Excellent report writing skills in English;
    j) Speaking and clarifying the content in Luanga language is highly preferred;
    k) Good understanding of poverty and exclusion in Bosque and the work;
    l) Excellent analytical and communication skills.
