Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

A professional certification in database administration or related areas, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft SQL Server certification, or equivalent, is an added advantage.

Minimum of 5-7 years' relevant work experience in database administration, with at least 3 years at a senior level.

Proven hands-on experience in administering, monitoring, tuning, and securing enterprise databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.

Strong experience in database backup, recovery, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.

Demonstrated experience in database security management, including user access control, encryption, patching, and compliance monitoring.

Proficiency in SQL scripting, database troubleshooting, and automation of routine administrative tasks.

Experience working with large-scale transactional systems, billing systems, ERP platforms, or other mission-critical business applications is an added advantage.

Good understanding of operating systems, especially Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments, as they relate to database hosting and support.

Familiarity with cloud database platforms and hybrid environments is an added advantage.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Added advantage

Experience in the utilities, telecommunications, banking, or other high-volume transaction environments.

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.
