The position holder will manage the operational delivery of the Mental Health Data Prize Project: Investigating predictors of depression treatment outcomes and causal mechanisms of group support psychotherapy effects on depression among people living with HIV (secondary data analysis of the SEEK-GSP trial).
The role requires a medical professional with proven mental health research experience, including project coordination, research publications, and data analysis. The post-holder will oversee project logistics, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, ensure compliance with research governance, and support the Principal Investigator in translating findings into high-impact outputs.

Roles & responsibilities
Principal duties and responsibilities.
1. Research Coordination.

  • Coordinate mental health research activities, ensuring delivery of milestones and outputs;
  • Support development of manuscripts and co-author research publications in peer-reviewed journals; and,
  • Conduct systematic and narrative literature reviews of mental health research.

2. Project Implementation.

  • Develop and maintain a detailed project plan with milestones, deliverables, and risk mitigation strategies;
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including data scientists, clinicians, digital platform developers, and field staff;
  • Assist the PI with preparation for ethical review board submissions and compliance documentation;
  • Maintain project documentation (meeting minutes, logs, status reports) in accordance with LSHTM procedures;
  • Support budgeting and procurement related to project activities (software, field travel, incentives);and,
  • Coordinate logistics for team meetings, workshops, and online training via the SEEKGSP Academy.

3. Data Analysis and reporting.

  • Apply data analysis skills using R, STATA, or equivalent statistical software to support project outputs;
  • Manage project documentation, including meeting minutes, logs, and status reports; and,
  • Contribute to internal reporting processes and donor progress reports for the Wellcome Trust.

4. Financial Management.

  • Monitor project expenditures against budget and alert the PI to any deviations; and,
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and liaise with finance officers for audits or funder queries.

5. Line Management.

  • Supervise administrative or field staff as needed (e.g., research assistants, interns); and,
  • Support team performance through goal setting, feedback, and professional development.

6. LSHTM Integration.

  • Ensure alignment of project practices with LSHTM policies and standards; and,
  • Represent the MHDP project in institutional meetings or cross-project collaborations when called upon.

Person Specification.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery;
  • Full registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council and a valid annual practicing license;
  • Additional Training in Project Management, Basic statistics or Research Methods is an added advantage;
  • Certificate in Good Clinical Practice;
  • Additional Training in Project Management, Basic statistics or Research Methods is an added advantage;
  • Should possess at least two years’ experience in mental health related research;
  • Contribution to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations from previous mental health research work. A first author publication is an added advantage;
  • Should possess strong leadership skills;
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills;
  • Ability to articulate scientific concepts and research findings clearly and accurately to diverse audiences;
  • Can-do attitude, highly organized and strong team player; and,
