Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)

This intermediate specialist consults on, and supports the implementation of holistic child development programs and interventions. The specialist generally provides highly competent knowledge in one holistic development subspecialties in this national office and is helpful in others. At this career level, the incumbent supports the local program design, performing independently on moderately complex issues. He or she may coach other specialists.

Responsibilities or duties

Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.

Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.

Work with key stakeholders, designing and developing various rural/urban commercialization strategies that promote food security and livelihoods among program beneficiaries.

Promote the use of modern farming practice and techniques among FCPs through organizing/facilitating training, advising caregivers, farm/site visits and demonstrations to transform targeted families from subsistence to commercial enterprises.

Build capacity of youth and caregivers through training in entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, market access and provision of relevant information and educative materials.

Work with Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Team to develop and up-to-date monitoring and evaluation framework as necessary and to improve quality of reporting, clearly articulate progress, and impact of projects.

Collaborate with county authorities and identify strategic partnerships.

Ensure that programme strategy supports and demonstrates good practice in child participation and child Protection.

Support the expansion of innovative youth development programming such transformative youth livelihoods, cash transfer/safety net group savings and loans and related approaches.

Faith

Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion's core "Cultural Behaviors" in all internal and external communication and relationships.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in International Development, Economics, Agriculture or any other related fields
  • At least 3- 5 years' experience in implementing Economic Development and Food Security projects and or programs.
  • Understanding of Program Cycle Management.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Knowledge of Data Analysis & Application and Monitoring & Evaluation.
  • Community development experience.
  • Cross-sectoral integration with sectors such as GEDSI, Education, WaSH, and Environmental stewardship.
  • Business/Enterprise Development experience.
  • Experience in Market Based Livelihood approaches such as Value Chain Development.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based interventions such as the TOPS Permagarden Toolkit, HOPE Savings Group Multiply model, International Labour Organization’s Start Your Business model, and Resilience design.
  • Understanding of livelihood framework, and the food and nutrition frameworks.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to review/analyse information, reach conclusions and make relevant decisions/recommendations
  • Ability to think programmatically and make recommendations/decisions based on this
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate discussions across multiple working groups
  • Ability to collaborate well both internally & externally
  • Ability to demonstrate servant leadership & live out Compassion’s Partnership Principles in supporting Frontline Church Partners
  • Ability to network with other ministries & organizations
