Job Overview

To implement our client’s Food Safety and Quality Management System across all operations in Uganda. This includes ensuring food safety and quality compliance in warehousing, logistics, and market activities for finished products such as ice cream, yogurt, and chocolate.

Key Responsibilities

1. Compliance

  • Ensure compliance to statutory, regulatory, customer and third-party food safety and quality requirements at the warehouse(s).
  • Conduct monthly internal audits for warehousing, logistics, and market inspections.
  • Participate in external audits for warehousing.
  • Ensure all staff in warehousing, logistics, sales have a valid food handler's certificate at all times.

2. Pest Control

  • Ensure daily warehouse facility inspections for signs of pest presence/infestation
  • Develop and/or review treatment plans and prevention methods for pest control and reduce risk for re-infestation.
  • Adhere to pest control schedule in collaboration with service provider.
  • Ensure effectiveness of pest prevention and control measures
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of pest control risk assessment, reports and trend analysis.

3. Warehouse Management (Finished Products)

  • Collaborate with warehousing team to ensure;
  • Inspection all finished products at receiving to ensure compliance to food safety and quality specifications & standards.
  • Implementation of good warehousing practices in all finished product storage sites i.e Traceability, FEFO, Temperature compliance
  • Documentation of all batches received and dispatched.
  • Compliance to cleaning & sanitation, personnel hygiene and overall housekeeping at the warehouse

4. Logistics Management

Collaborate with logistics team to ensure:

  • Ensure strict adherence and documentation of cleaning and sanitation for all trucks
  • Ensure truck preventive maintenance is documented and adhered to for all trucks
  • Ensure tracking, documentation and record retention for all temperature records during distribution

5. Market Surveillance

  • Development and implementation of market surveillance program for Uganda. Report weekly.
  • Track market returns and ensure controlled release of returned products back to the market.
  • Customer complaints- carry out root cause analysis and implement corrective action

6. Staff Training & Development

  • Carry out food safety and training needs assessment and develop training schedule annually for Warehousing, logistics, Sales team in Uganda.
  • Develop, review and maintain a database for training content for all schedule training.
  • Ensure strict adherence to training schedule, attendance and training evaluation.

7. Food Safety & Quality

  • Lead food safety and quality meetings
  • Ensure accurate record keeping, verification, analysis & retention for allocated records
  • Proactively identify, correct, document & close non-conformities as per SOP

Job Specifications

  • Bsc. Food science/technology, Analytical chemistry, Quality assurance
  • At least 3 years food industry experience,
  • A minimum of 2-year supervisory experience.

Key Competencies

  • A strong working knowledge on food manufacturing, sector specific scientific techniques and standard industry lab equipment.
  • Full understanding of food standards (FSSC 22000, ISO 22000, HACCP et al. safety and sanitary regulations, and good manufacturing practices
  • Communication: Strong written, oral, and facilitation skills
  • Keen attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Numeracy skills: to calibrate and measure specifications.
  • High level of integrity and honesty
  • Discretion, professionalism, and ability to hold confidential information.
  • Strong work ethic with a desire to learn
  • Flexible & adaptive- ability to handle changing timelines and priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
