Self Help Africa (SHA), through the Sustainable Landscapes for Resilient Livelihoods and Growing Resilience and Eco Enterprise (GREEN) projects, is strengthening eco-businesses and climate-resilient livelihoods in the Lake Bunyonyi sub-catchment. A refresher training is being organized to build the capacity of Trainers of Trainers (ToTs), project staff, Community-Based Trainers (CBTs), and district officers in business development.
The training will be conducted in two segments:
- Segment 2 (3 days): Project staff, CBTs, and district officers
Objective of the Assignment
To deliver a six-day, practical, and participatory refresher training aimed at enhancing the business planning, entrepreneurship, market access, and financial management skills of ToTs, staff, CBTs, and district officers.
Scope of Work and Responsibilities:
Pre-Training Preparation
- Review project documentation and group business plans to inform training design
- Analyze pre-assessment data to tailor the training content
- Develop a detailed training plan and session outlines for both segments
- Prepare user-friendly business planning and monitoring tools/templates
Segment 1: ToTs (9th–11th June 2025)
- Day 1:
- Facilitate sessions on business visioning, goal-setting, and sustainable business model development
- Lead participatory exercises evaluating local farm/eco-business cases
- Day 2:
- Facilitate sessions on entrepreneurship, marketing, and bulking strategies
- Conduct role plays and problem-solving activities using real market linkage challenges
- Day 3:
- Train on simplified financial management, record-keeping, and use of templates (e.g., income statements, cash flow sheets)
- Guide the ToTs in revising 76 business plans based on hands-on learning
- Facilitate a 4-hour joint session for ToTs to present business plans to staff, CBTs, and district officers and receive strategic input
Segment 2: Staff, CBTs & District Officers (12th–14th June 2025)
- Day 4:
- Facilitate training on business thinking, entrepreneurship for sustainability, and resilience-building in eco-businesses
- Day 5:
- Lead sessions on market access strategies and tools for private sector engagement
- Train participants on the development and use of simple monitoring checklists
- Day 6:
- Facilitate training on financial oversight, mentorship planning, and guidance on supporting group business plans
- Co-create a draft mentorship framework with participants for post-training support to eco-businesses
Post-Training Tasks
- Submit a training report (within 5 days) covering training delivery, participant engagement, lessons learned, and recommendations
- Share updated training materials and templates used during the sessions
Deliverables:
- Training agenda and methodology approved before 3rd June 2025
- Daily session materials, templates, and handouts
- Revised 76 eco-business plans (facilitated outputs by ToTs)
- Draft mentorship framework (with staff and CBTs)
- Final training report, including evaluation summary and next steps
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, or related field (master’s preferred)
- Proven experience in business skills training, entrepreneurship development, and financial literacy, especially with farmer groups
- At least 5 years of experience facilitating ToT and community-based training in rural development settings
- Strong participatory training skills using adult learning methodologies
- Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture or eco-businesses is an added advantage
Reporting and Supervision
The Trainer will report to the SHA Project Manager and will work in close coordination with SHA project officers, CBTs, and district representatives.
